THE HOUSE IN THE VIRTUAL AGE OF THE 21 ST CENTURY

Abstract:

At the threshold of the 21 st Century, at the software age, many questions come into existence, whether and in which way the new digital technology could have an effect on the concepts of shaping the housing environment and the house. The idea of the house of the future was defined in the context of different visions of the future city, such as: artificial housing platforms and islands, ecological and technological housing structures, mobile and vertical cities, electronic capsules in the mega-city. The future world of the digital technology was described in the aspects of the virtual concepts of the space, human being and the house. On the basis of different architectural designs and visions the following streams of thinking about the house of the virtual age were distinguished: the house as interplanetary vacuum-cleaner, intelligent house, black box, house of the illusion and nanotopian house do-it-yourself.
