METAPHORS - METAMORPHOSES

Ada Kwiatkowska

Abstract

Metamorphoses as the processes of transformations of forms of expressions are the origins of all transformations of architectural forms, which took place in the history of architecture. The architectural form represents something more than only real architectural object or its spatial vision. It is possible to discover the metaphorical layer (the creational potential of form) and metamorphic layer (transformable potential of form) of the architectural structure. The metaphorical form can adopt the expressions of allegory, hyperbole or katachresis. The metamorphoses of the architectural form can be viewed in the aspect of the differentiations of structural and figurative phases of formation (metamorphic transformations), differentiations of evolutionary phases (holo - and hemi-metamorphoses) and of energy-biochemical potentials (metabolism).
