POINTILLISM-LIKE LANDSCAPE OF THE
CONTEMPORARY METROPOLISES Ada
Kwiatkowska Abstract
Contemporary
metropolises are the material and virtual plain emitting bits of information.
The landscape of the urban agglomeration is a pointillism like picture
The
patterns of the contemporary city structure, based on islands’ phenomenon
(pointillism-like style), are analyzed in the aspects of the gigantic
centers as the scenery of the mass spectacles (New Year welcome, rock
concerts, street parades etc.), the green islands and oasis (recreation),
peripheries as the local islands of beauty surrounded by the liquid urban
landscape - included or excluded from the city structure (condominium,
ghettos, industrial areas, cemeteries etc.), virtual islands of beauty
(collage, image, virtual pictures), transport channels as the spatial
potential of the future development of metropolises (membranes, channels,
bridges, stations).
