DIGITAL ARCHITECTURE: BETWEEN BEAUTY AND KITSCH IN FLAGRANTI

Ada Kwiatkowska

Abstract

The Vitruvian theory doesn't correspond to the challenges of digital architecture. Architectural form of beyond-modern age is becoming relative. Digital form follows bits, emitting many multivalent images and being expression of the higher-ordered structure and presence of many points of view at the same time. Is any message there? Is any beauty there? Digital architecture shows a tendency of liberation of architectural object from all logical, ethical and aesthetical criteria of evaluation. The only applicable definitions of the beauty can be taken from the conceptualism - the beauty of artistic thought or from the hermeneutical aesthetics - the beauty in flagranti. The dominance of 3D-visualization in expressions of digital forms, moves digital architecture into daub's direction. There is a certain convergence of the kitschy artistic expression and digital architectural forms, revealing in the excitement of beautiful appearance of form, the superiority of form over its content, copy-paste of the motifs, creating the world of seemingly real illusion, and expressions of the world as absurd flood of forms to the infinity.
